Description:
Pamphlet. "New York, Printed for J. Sabin, 1867." Prefatory note signed: F. L. Hawks. "Two hundred and fifty copies printed, of which fifty are on large paper." Facsimile reprint of 1609 London edition with title: Nova Britannia. Offring most excellent fruites [etc.] "Within the knowledge of the Editor there are but two tracts earlier than this, concerning what was called "Virginia" in 1609. The one is Waymonth's voyage to North Virginia, in which he does not appear to have been on what is now the Virginia coast at all. This was published in 1605. The other is a "Relation of what hapned in Virginia since the first planting of that Collony:" this was written by Capt. John Smith, in the form of a letter to a friend in English, and published in 1608; and this, so far as we know is now called Virginia." cf. Prefatory note.
